Will the 6-Leaf 24-7/8" Long Leaf Springs Be Able To Replace 25-1/4" Leaf Springs

Question:

I have measured the spring length under load and lifted. I get 26inch under load and 25 1/4inch or so lifted. I have 29 1/2inch between the front and center hangers and between the center and rear hangers and about 33inch between the axles. My equalizer is 6 1/8inch long and 2 1/2inch tall measuring eye to eye as described. My shackles are 2 1/4inch eye to eye. I am having trouble determining if I can use the 24 7/8inch 5300lb axle 6 leaf springs or if these will be too short and I should go with a longer spring. I dont see any 6 leaf springs in 25 1/8inch or 25 1/4. Would a 26inch be too long if I kept the equalizers and shackles at their current length? Will there be adverse effects if I replace my equalizers or shackles with longer or shorter ones? If there are no negatives, would adding longer equalizers or schackles raise my camper a bit more? I dont want to jeopardize the integrity of my suspension system or change the ride much and just want to be sure Ive got everything correct before purchasing parts. Looking for your best recommendations on sizes for these components. Thank you!

Expert Reply:

As leaf springs wear out over time, they will elongate. Therefore, the correct replacements will likely be shorter in overall length. If you measured 25-1/4" unloaded then a 24-7/8" long leaf spring would likely work well. Therefore, the part # SP-222275 you're looking at will be a direct drop-in replacement. You will be able to reuse your existing shackle straps and equalizers.
