There is a chance that any trailer hitch receiver will cause some interference with the hands free lift gate sensor on your 2021 Toyota Highlander as they all place the receiver tube in the same area. You will want a receiver that fits your needs, I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e75ZR. The cross tube is hidden behind the bumper fascia providing a cleaner more OEM look.
In going through the 260 product reviews for this receiver I was unable to find one complaint of either system failing to work with the receiver installed. I have never heard of the parking assist being affected unless a hitch mounted accessory or trailer was connected.
The Tekonsha ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT will provide you with a 4-way flat connector for towing small trailers. This kit uses sensors over the taillight wires that detect power running through the wire, thus ensuring there is no extra strain put on your factory wiring. A Mounting Bracket # 18144 can be used to secure the 4-way on the receiver tab for easy access.
The etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches # 989900 provides you with both a 2" and 1-7/8" trailer ball. They can be attached to one of 2 different drop/rise ball mounts and stored nicely in the included storage bag.
