Brake Stop Lamp Switch Circuit for 2003 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I’m trying to find the cold side wire on the brake switch. From reading it sounds like it is the green with white stripe. When I test with light tester I get the wire energized with the brake unpressed and not energized when pressed. Exactly backwards? What am I doing wrong?

According to the information I have for the 2003 Toyota Tacoma, it should be the dark green/white wire you're looking for, like what's shown at the 18:00 mark in the linked video. I can't explain why the signal you're getting is the opposite of what it should be, but it's possible that the factory had to use a different wire color for some reason, so I'd check all the wires exiting the switch.
If you can't find the correct wire, there are some alternatives. You could access the brake lamp circuit at the 3rd bake lamp, then run a wire back to the brake controller, or you could also use a universal stop light switch, part # RM-751000
