For your 2020 Ford Explorer I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e29YR. This Class III receiver is capable of 600lbs tongue weight and 6,000lbs towing.
For the wiring the kit will depend on what factory wiring you have in place and will need.
If your vehicle has the factory tow package wiring a 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket # HM40975 is all you need to plug into your factory harness. I have linked a video below that shows the connector used and installation on a 2018 Explorer.
If you do not have the factory connector you will need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118599 to give you a 4-way flat trailer connector. If that is the only connector that you will need then that is it.
To get to a 7-way you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will include all the wiring and relays to install a 7-way connector and brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is the brake controller I recommend. It is customizable, easily removable and features diagnostic support in the event you have an issue with the trailer brakes.
If your Explorer has the factory connector for the 7-way the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3035-P will make the brake controller a plug n play installation.
