The first thing you'll want to do is determine if the problem lies with the vehicle or the trailer. Use a circuit tester like part # 40376 on the pin in the 11:00 position on the 7-way. If the vehicle headlights or running lights are on, this pin should show power. If it doesn't, the most likely cause would be a blown fuse or a missing relay. The engine compartment fuse box should have a description on the top or the inside of the lid describing which fuses protect which circuits. You'll want to look for the trailer running light circuit. Make sure the fuse is in place and isn't blown. If it's a blown fuse, you'll want to check the running lamp circuit on the trailer, and find the short that caused the fuse to blow and repair it before plugging the trailer back in.
The running lamp relay is usually found behind a panel to the left of the steering wheel as shown in the provided photo. We sell the relay in the Curt Relay Kit # C57000.
If you do get a signal on the running lamp circuit on the 7-way, the problem lies in the running lamp circuit on the trailer. Trace the running lamp circuit rearward from the trailer connector, which is typically a brown wire. Look for broken wires or loose connections and repair.
