Trailer Hitch, Wiring, & Wireless Brake Controller For 2021 Toyota RAV4
Question:
We just bought a new 2021 RAV4 Adventure model rated for 3,500 pounds of towing. We will use it to tow a medium size teardrop camper trailer (Hiker Brand) which will weigh about 1600 pounds loaded. The trailer will come with electric brakes. I plan to buy your Curt Class III hitch: C13416 I need a 7 pin wiring connector to handle the brakes. I'm also thinking about a bluetooth smartphone type brake controller to simplify the wiring. Your opinion on that technology? I see that you offer 2 different types of wiring options (Curt and Tekonsha) but these are for "flat 4" connectors. What can you supply to handle my need for a round 7 connector? Thanks in advance for your help.

We can absolutely get your 2021 Toyota RAV4 set up with the correct wiring and wireless brake controller to go along with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13416.
In regards to the bluetooth, wireless brake controller, the technology is great, and the controller is highly reliable. In fact, even if you lose connection, it will still work at the current settings, so there's no risk of not having your trailer's brakes be active. It is also the most convenient and easiest type of brake controller to use, and there isn't any type of control unit inside your vehicle either, so it saves space. It's definitely something I recommend to anyone wanting to maximize ease of use while still getting reliable braking.
So, for your 2021 RAV4, to add a wireless brake controller you will need the wiring, like you mentioned, and the exact parts are the following:
- Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180
- Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56434
- 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L
You will need to install the 4-flat first, as this is what will control the lighting functions on your trailer, and the 4-flat will plug into the 7-way, which will allow you the use of the wireless brake controller.
