Can Spring Bars On 1,200lb Curt Round Bar Weight Distribution Hitch Be Replaced W/ 600lb Bars?
Question:
Hi, The dealership I purchased my trailer from sold and installed a curt weight distribution hitch round bar system rated for 1,200 tongue weight. My trailer has a tongue weight of 500lbs this is way over kill and at the time I didnt know that it could cause damage to my trailer. The only part number I can find on the hitch is S05145C-RA. Can you tell me if these will work? Thanks for your help

I have a complete replacement option for you, but there are no replacement round spring bars for your Curt round bar weight distribution hitch that are rated for the 500lb tongue weight of your trailer. Since your current spring bars are rated for up to 1,200lbs of tongue weight you will have a very very stiff ride so I do not recommend using them.
To get a system that is rated for your tongue weight range I recommend looking at the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 lbs GTW, 800 lbs TW # FA92-00-0800 which works with total tongue weights between 400 - 800lbs so it will work perfectly for you without giving you a stiff ride. This system has built in two-point sway control does a great job of keeping your trailer straight on the highway.
You can reuse your current hitch ball as it has a 1-1/4" diameter shank.
I included a video of the # FA92-00-0800 for you to take a look at.
