Why a 30A Breaker on 12V Feed for Curt Echo Brake Controller When Brake Magnets Only Use 4A Each
Question:
Why do you need a 40 amp breaker for the black wire running from the battery to the 7-pin if the brakes only use around for amps?

Expert Reply:
For the Curt # C51180 Echo wireless brake controller, the circuit ran to the battery doesn't only power the controller and deliver power to the trailer brakes, but it also passes 12-v accessory power through to the trailer.
We typically recommend the # ETBC7L install kit which includes a 4 pole to 7-way adapter, a 40 amp breaker to protect the 12-v feed to the battery.
I've linked to demonstration videos for the Curt # C51180 Echo Brake Controller as well as for the # ETBC7L install kit.
