Is Glue Necessary to Mount the Thule Elite Van XT on a Ram ProMaster and Can the Rails be Removed

Question:

Is the glue necessary for installation of the Thule Elite Van XT on a Ram Promaster? I have read of installations without glue, like Sikaflex. If I use Sikaflex 252, would I ever be able to remove the rack rails?

I spoke with Thule regarding the glue alternatives for installing the Thule Elite Van XT, part # TH302013, on a 2018 Ram ProMaster 2500.

In order to mount this without glue, you will need to use bolts to keep this mounted on your ProMaster. That would require drilling into the door.

As for being able to remove the rails after applying glue, you will not be able to do this. This is a permanent mount that relies on its ability to stay one to support the bikes.

This is not completely accurate. The rails can be removed with steel wire/nylon string to cut the silicone adhesive (similar to removing car emblems) and the remaining glue can be removed with a rubber adhesive wheel. I can confirm with 100% confidence that this can be done. Obviously if you go off book and mount the rails with epoxy, you may not be able to cut the adhesive.
