Wiring Up a 2021 Ford Ranger For Flat Towing, What Wires In The 6-Pin Do I Need?

Question:

I am installing the Demco Stay-n-play Duo in a 2021 Ford Ranger your videos on 2019 and 2020 Rangers are the same truck. For my 6pin outlet on the truck, from this HM47054 kit, what is the blueinch connection for? It says brake controller but nowhere in my Demco, or my universal wiring kit does it say to hook here...only the Brown, Green, Yellow, White wires for tailights. Confused as to what the blueinch brake controller wiring connection is for.

Expert Reply:

You will not use the 6th pin for the brake control wire(blue) on the side of the 2021 Ford Ranger with the Hopkins Nite-Glow Tow Bar Extension Cord # HM47054. The 6 pin connector will allow you to connect the taillights with the brown, green, yellow and white wires as in the instructions.

You can also attach the red/black post of the 6-way to the battery of the Ranger with a Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25. This will prevent the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR from draining the battery on the Ranger when being towed. The DUO looks for 2 different signals to activate the braking system on the towed vehicle. It taps into the brake light signal to see that you are pushing on the brakes and it has an inertia sensor and will not activate the brakes until if feels that the tow vehicle is slowing down.
