Recommended 5-way Connector For 2021 Toyota Highlander To Tow Boat Trailer W/ Reverse Lockout

HOW DO YOU GET POWER TO A FLAT 5 WHEN IN REVERSE TO RELEASE SURGE BRAKES. OUR CONCERN IS THE BACK UP LIGHT WIRES ARE VERY SMALL AND WONT HANDLE THE AMPERAGE.

To add a 5-way flat to your 2021 Toyota Highlander you would want to use the Tekonsha T-One Connector # TK74FR to give you a 4-way flat connector.
You will then need the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way Flat to 5-Way Flat - Vehicle End # C57187 which will plug into the 4-way connector and give you the 5-way connector you need for your boat trailer. To power the 5th pin you will need to run the blue wire to the reverse light circuit of your Highlander and connect it using the included quick splice.
A circuit tester like # PTW2993 will allow you to find the correct wire.
The reverse lockout solenoid on surge brake actuators does not require much power, so you will not need to worry about any adverse affects.
