Can I Stack Two Roof Racks On Top Of Each Other To Carry Solar Panels And A Kayak?

Question:

I have a GMC Savana with roof gutters. Is it possible to 1 mount solar panels to a ladder rack with 3 crossbars at a minimum height to clear the roof and then 2 add 2 crossbars at a greater height to accommodate a Hobie Adventure Island with cradles? The crossbars for boat would only be installed as needed. What products do you recommend?

If you were to get any ladder rack like the Thule TracRac # TH29056XT you will not be able to stack roof racks on top of each other, but this rack will fit your 2001 GMC Savana. I see what you're wanting to accomplish but this is not something that manufactures allow. One thing you could do is get something like the Goal Zero Yeti # GZ67FR portable solar system. The power station should fit in your kayak so you can have a charge when you're on the water. It's 7-15/16" long x 5-1/8" wide x 5-1/8" tall. The panels could go on your roof too, but they won't mount on top. When unfolded it's 11-1/2" long x 21-3/4" wide x 3/4" thick and when folded it's 11-1/2" long x 7-3/8" wide x 1-1/4" thick. This is the closest thing I can provide for you to get a similar result you're looking for.

For mounting your kayak on your roof I suggest getting some of these Malone Rack Pads # MPG314 to position them where your kayak hits the crossbars to prevent any damage. Then you can use our strap kit # e36ZR to tie it down.
