Flat Towing Questions, Getting Started

Question:

What do I need to order and install to flat tire tow my 2015 Equinox? I am a snow bird and currently use a dolly. Since the Equinox is getting a fair number of miles on it would it make more sense to replace it before purchasing the equipment to flat tire tow. What would be wasted? I will eventually purchase a similar car.

Flat towing a vehicle safely you must have:

1, A base plate kit installed on your towed vehicle. Such as the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit, # RM-523160-4.

2, A tow bar to connect your towed vehicle to the RV. Such as the Roadmaster Falcon Non-Binding Tow Bar, # RM-522.

3/4, Safety cables to add an extra level of safety between the two incase of accidental disconnect and Wiring to synchronize your RV’s and towed vehicles lights.. Such as the RoadMaster Falcon 2 and Falcon All-Terrain Combo Towing Kit with Straight Wiring, # RM-9243-1.

5, A supplemental braking system to synchronize your RV’s and towed brakes. Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System, # RM-8700. Or the Blue Ox Patriot Portable Braking System, # BLU37TR.

6, Additional Components to adapt your rig to your RV and towed vehicle.

Please note the attached help articles to provide more in depth information. As an example, one of the articles shows the vehicle specific base plates for a vehicle similar to yours. A "Flat Tow" set-up will always start with the vehicles specific base plate. One that is selected you then know what what tow bar options are compatible, safety cable options between the two and what wiring is needed. And finally what supplemental braking systems are available and which you would prefer of those options.

If you chose to go with flat towing your new vehicle, please let us know what vehicle make/model and year you select and I will be glad to provide a detailed parts list for that specific towed.
