Preparing to Tow a Travel Trailer With 2016 Jeep Wrangler Needing Electric Brake Controller
Question:
I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and purchasing a new travel trailer with electric brakes. The tow vehicle does not currently have any trailer hook ups. From your information, I would need a 118416 4-way lighting wiring harness, an ETBC7 wiring harness for the Brake Controller and I want to use a Prodigy P-3 Brake Controller 90195. Would this be correct? Is there an adaptor cable that is needed for the P-3 Brake Controller or does it come with the needed wiring? Thank you

You are correct with the parts that you have referenced. The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118416 will give you the plug and play tail light harness to plug into the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. The installation kit will include all the wiring and connectors that you will need for installing the 7-way on your 2016 Jeep Wrangler.
You may require some different fasteners for the different components depending on where you choose to mount all the parts. I have included links to the installation videos below to help guide you through the installation process.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 will not have a adapter cable for your Wrangler. You will have to run wiring that is included in the # ETBC7 kit for the brake controller pigtail that comes with the P3. You will also tap into the brake light switch on your Wrangler, I recommend using a Test Light # PTW2993 to ensure that you tap into the cold side of the switch that only receives power when the brake pedal is pressed.
I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98856 that will bolt to your Wrangler with the factory bumper. This will allow you to use a Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37040ET. This will improve your ride quality by evenly distributing the hitch weight across your Jeep so that your rear suspension won't sag from the weight. With the built in sway control you will be help protect against sway on your travel trailer caused by wind and large vehicles on the highway.
