Does Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller Work on Motorhome With Air Brakes
Question:
I am buying a Newmar Dutch Star 2021 RV in June. Two questions: 1. Will this controller work well and the RV with air brakes? 2. Do you know if this model RV is prewired for a brake controller? If so, which connector kit would I need? Thanks

A proportional brake controller will absolutely work on a motorhome like your 2021 Newmar Dutch Star with air brakes, as it simply needs to wire into the brake light circuit (the circuit that only sees voltage when your brakes are applied). So, the actual type of brakes on your motorhome won't be a factor, which means you can use the Prodigy brake controller you mentioned:
- Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195
The P3 # 90195 is a great choice because it offers consistently smooth braking, has a bright LCD screen that is very easy to read, and has continual diagnostic checks with safeguards to prevent battery drain or shorts.
In regards to if the vehicle is pre-wired that is not something we are aware of, though most will have blunt cut wires somewhere under the dash that allow the installation of the controller, so no other parts are needed.
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195.
