Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for 2013 Lincoln Navigator
Question:
I have a 2013 Lincoln Navigator rear wheel drive base model. It has a flat four connector for trailer hook up. I need a brake controller for a two axel 22foot 1977 Holiday Ramblette trailer with electric brakes. I prefer the proportional type controller. The UHaul store quoted 3 to 4 hours to install @$65 per hour plus the controller. What would I need to do this myself. I have installed a back-up camera on a 2003 Explorer, so I have some knowledge of wiring etc. What hardware would I need and does it come with installation instructions? Thanks

The installation on your Navigator shouldn't be too difficult.
For the easiest installation possible, I'd recommend the Curt Echo, part # C51180. This is a wireless brake controller that allows you to control the braking action of the travel trailer using a smart phone. Since you already have the 4 pole trailer connector in place, the only other thing you'll need is the # ETBC7L brake controller installation kit. The kit includes an adapter that will convert your existing 4 pole to a 7-way. The only other 2 connections you'll need to make is to ground the white wire on the adapter to the vehicle frame and run the black wire to the positive battery terminal via the included circuit breaker. You might also need a # 18144 bracket as shown in the linked video.
Operating instructions are included with the Curt Echo, and you really won't need instructions for the
# ETBC7L kit, because it installs exactly as mentioned above. I've linked to some demonstration videos that you'll probably find very helpful, though. One video walks you through how the Echo works, the other explains how to use the # ETBC7L kit.
