Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And Bike Rack For 2017 subaru forester
Question:
Im looking for a hitch for my 2017 subaru forester. Primary use would be for road trips, where I intend to add a joint cargo basket / 4-bike carrier. Down the road perhaps a trailer, though uncertain. If you have any cargo basket / bike carrier products to recommend too, that would also be a great help. Thank you!

First off, you will definitely want to go with a 2" trailer hitch receiver as there is a larger variety of accessories that are compatible with 2" receiver openings. That being said, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75876 would be an excellent option for you. Some other options, such as the Curt hitch receiver, require use of a stabilizing strap for non-trailer loads but this Draw-Tite receive does not require that and it will be an easier product to use. The max tongue weight rating is 525lbs which will be more than enough for a 4-bike carrier or cargo carrier.
There are not any 4-bike carriers that also have a cargo rack installed onto it, however, the closest thing would be the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack w/ Cargo Carrier for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches # HR1400Z-85. This comes with a 2 bike carrier that you can convert to 4 bike carrier, or use the 2 bike carrier along with the included cargo rack. You can also use the cargo rack by itself without the bike rack, but you cannot use the 4 bike configuration with the cargo rack at the same time.
Another option is to install a hitch-mounted 4-bike carrier and then install a roof-mounted cargo box for your extra belongings. For a bike rack you could look into the Hollywood Racks Destination Bike Rack for 4 Bikes - 2" Hitches # HR4000 which is an affordable option.
Then you can install a roof rack for the cargo box if you do not have a roof rack already. For your factory roof rails running front to back, you can install Malone SteelTop Roof Rack - Square Crossbars 50" Long # MPG201.
