You will need to use the stoplight switch wire on your 2009 Chevrolet Silverado for the red stoplight switch wire on a brake controller. If you look underneath your dash to the left of your steering column, you will find a bundle of wires that should have a white tag on them. Chevrolet runs the wires for an aftermarket brake controller for you, they just do not put a plug on them.
The typical wire colors and connections for this bundle are listed below, but check the tag in case your colors are different.
Red - 12V power, connects to black brake controller wire.
Dark blue - Electric brake signal, connects to blue brake controller wire.
Light blue - Stoplight switch, connects to red brake controller wire.
White - Ground, connects to white brake controller wire.
I am including links to an FAQ that should help you, as well as a video of a brake controller being installed on another 2009 Silverado which will be the same procedure you will use.

Thank you Sarah. That did it. I found the wires taped under the dash. Funny it looked like they rushed it through. Dab of tape on each wire, then just pushed up into the other wires under the instrument cluster. i only used the stoplite wire as i already ran the others. You were a big help. Thanks again!
