Availability of Non-Cambered Short 3500 lb Replacement Axle
Question:
I have a small trailer that will weigh between 1800-2200 pounds loaded. It is narrower than the axles I see available: Hub-face-to-Hub-face: 55.75 Spring-center-to-spring-center: 36.125 Id like to run a 3500# axle to get standard #84 spindles to run 5x5 wheels. Would a non-cambered axle be recommended at that weight range? Can I order a shorter axle or non-cambered axle?

The axles we carry are cambered or arched so that when the trailer is under load, the tire treads make full contact with the road surface. If they were not cambered, once the trailer was under load, the wheels would have a slight negative camber which would cause excessive wear on the inside of the treads.
The axles you see on our website are the most common sizes, for what you're looking for, you'll need to order a custom built axle direct from Dexter. You'd need to see your local trailer shop for this, as we don't ship custom axles.
Another option would be the Axle-Less suspension from Timbren which combines the axle beam and the suspension into one unit. These also have a built-in camber. A 3500 lb capacity unit like # A35RS545 includes spindles compatible with a L68149 and L44649 bearings which are typically found on a 3500 lb axle. You'll also need hubs with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern (I'm assuming that's what you meant by 5x5 wheels). For a brake hub, you'll need 2 # AKHD-550-35-EZ-K hub/drums which include the bearings, grease seal, races, dust cap and lug nuts. Even the grease is included. You'll also need a left hand # AKEBRK-35L-SA and right hand # AKEBRK-35R-SA brake assembly. If you want idler hubs, use # AKIHUB-550-35-EZ-K.
I'll link to a demonstration video for the Timbren Axle-Less suspension system.
