Is SumoSprings or RoadActive Suspension Better For 2008 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I was considering the 3000 lb kit, item # RAS34FR. Do you recommend the 2000 lb kit over the 3000 lb kit?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For your 2008 Toyota Tundra, between the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-610-54 and the RoadActive Suspension (RAS) Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS4611TD, the better overall system is the RAS # RAS4611TD.
The reason for that is the RAS is an active system which continually reinforces your Tundra's original leaf spring suspension. The force normally put on its leaf springs, either when carrying cargo or towing a trailer like you are, gets transferred to the RAS Enhancement Kit, allowing your original leaf springs to work normally, reducing the additional stress put on those springs and ensuring you are level and stable.
The RAS Enhancement Kit also gives your truck better traction and handling because the RAS springs take the brunt of the weight, ensuring your front wheels stay completely on the ground (instead of being slightly raised due to heavy cargo or a trailer's tongue weight). The SumoSprings are certainly a nice upgrade, and when your Tundra squats they'll give it added support, but they don't give the overall benefit to the entire suspension system like the RoadActive does.
I have added links below to some video reviews for you to check out as well of the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-610-54 and the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS4611TD.
