Flat Towing Recommendations for a 2021 Chevy Colorado 4WD

Question:

I am installing a Brake Buddy with 15 amp charging line and RoadMaster battery disconnect switch RM-766 in my 2021 Chevy Colorado. Do I connect the charging line to the hot side to the disconnect switch or the positive terminal of the battery itself? I assume any ground is ok for the ground of the charging line. Thanks

The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM37VR will reuse the manufacturer hardware on your 2021 Chevrolet Colorado 4WD with neutral Transfer case. It does not require you to cut or grind on the frame like the Demco and etrailer options. This is why I recommend the Roadmaster over the others.

For tow bars I recommend the Roadmaster Nighthawk # RM-676. They allow your to direct connect to the base plate without the need of the crossbar. These will come prewired with 7-way motorhome and 6-way vehicle plugs. To go with this you will want the Towing Combo Kit # RM-9284-2. This kit also includes the wiring for your lighting as we do not have a vehicle specific kit for your Colorado. This wiring will not void your warranty.

I recommend the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch # RM-766. It will disconnect the power rather than removing the battery terminal when towing. On your Colorado the radio presets and settings will not be lost as the newer models have a memory feature that won't clear when the battery is disconnected. The Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 will ensure that your battery is fully charged when towing and not be drained by the additonal braking system that you will need.

For a braking system the two I recommend will depend on your motorhome. Both of these systems are proportional and will install under your hood so you won't have to store and reinstall a portable braking system every time you prepare to tow. Both systems also have emergency break away systems that will activate if your vehicle were to become separated from your motorhome.

When installing the Charge Line # BB54FR portion of your Brake Buddy # HM39524 you can mount the hot side(black wire) to either the hot side of the battery disconnect or the battery. The ground(white wire) can go to any accessible ground connection.
