Yakima Fishing Rod Roof Cargo Box Lock Core Replacement
Question:
Hi! Our key broke off in the core and cannot get it out. We bought a SKS key core and key but it does not appear to be the same. Is there a replacement part for the entire lock unit pictured. Or how can we get key out to replace t the core? We have been trying to solve this for 2 weeks. I cant believe we are the only ones to break a key! Thanks so much!

You certainly are not the only ones to break a key and there is definitely a solution! Your old key core likely sits in a housing. If so, then your best bet is to try and remove the piece of broken key by using a paper clip or pick and then needle nose pliers to pull it out. If this doesn't work then I recommend contacting a lock smith or you could try drilling out the lock core at your own risk if you are handy with that kind of thing. Once the broken key is removed then you can use Control Key # Y8007835 to remove the lock core if it is unlocked. If it is locked or if you could not remove the broken key then your only option is to have the lock core drilled out so you can install a new one.
The new SKS lock core and key that you bought is the correct set for this; Yakima uses the same basic lock setup for most of their products. You will need to insert the Control Key into the new lock core and press the lock core into the lock housing and remove the control key. Then you can insert the lock core's matching key and lock it.
