Add Separate Trailer Turn Signal Lights

Question:

I’m looking to add side turn signal lights to my trailer but I don’t want them to work when I hit the brakes. Didn’t know if if they make a single function light fluke that or if you have to put something like a converter or diode‘s in before that. Thanks for your help

Please take a look at the Curt 2 to 3 Wire Tail Light Converter, # C56196. Pair this converter with an isolating diode kit, # 38955, to get the signal you are looking for. This is actually designed for use of flat towing a vehicle behind a motorhome, but the same results are achieved for what you are wanting, separate signal lights. It is rather straight forward, see the attached diagram. Remember that although wiring color code is identified, attach wires function to function even if color code is different. Also, keep in mind that this converter is not compatible with LED lights.
