The first thing you are going to want to look at is in the 7-Way uses round pins like # PK11700, or blade style like # PK12706. This is so we can pick out the correct adapter for you.

If it uses the blade style pins then there are several adapters available like # 37185 that you could use. If it has round pins it would be easiest to replace the connector on the trailer using # PK12706 and then use the adapter. Use the FAQ article and diagrams of connectors I have included if you need to wire in a new trailer side connector.

Be sure to trace the wires back on the trailer to determine function rather than going just by color.

Once the 7-Way blade style connector is in place, or if it already has one, you can use the adapter. On the adapter you will need to ground the white wire to the vehicle frame. If you only want the trailer lights to works then you just have to tape up the remaining wires and stow them out of the way.

If the trailer has reverse lights you will splice the purple wire to a reverse light wire behind one of the tail lights. If the trailer requires 12 volt power then you will need to run a wire from the adapter black wire to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540. For wire you can use # 10-1-1 (sold in 1 foot increments).

If the trailer has electric brakes then you will need to connect the blue wire on the adapter to the blue wire on a brake controller. If you do need both 12 volt power and trailer brakes then I recommend getting kit # ETBC7 which is going to come with everything needed to wire in the adapter, including the adapter itself.

You would also need a brake controller to control the trailer brakes. I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and easy to use.
