In order for a hitch mounted cargo carrier to be able to install on the hitch of your 2011 Chevy Equinox and still fold up it is going to need a distance of 5 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the nearest portion of the rack when folded. I know this because we installed a hitch on a 2011 Chevy Equinox and we measured from the center of the hitch pin out to the furthest point out on the rear bumper and found that it measures 5 inches. Check out the video I attached to see this.
Now the etrailer Carrier # e98874 has a distance of 9-1/2 inches from the center of hitch pin to the nearest portion of the rack when folded so we know it will work with room to spare.
You could also look at the Draw-Tite carrier # 6502. This carrier has 7-1/2 inches of clearance when the carrier is folded from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest portion of the rack when folded.
