Hitch Adapter To Convert 1-/4" Hitch Receiver To 2" And Increase Ground Clearance By 5"

Question:

I have a Drawtight 24871 hitch on my 2014 chrysler 200 1-1/4 in. receiver, Thule bike rack 2”, and straight reducer/adapter to fit both sizes. Trouble is rack drags on incline! I need an adapter that curls up to avoid the drag! I saw two on your site that might fit, but I might have to install it in reverse! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Expert Reply:

Your best and safest way to fit your 2" bike rack onto your vehicle's 1-1/4" hitch receiver, all while increasing ground clearance, is to use Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R. Keep in mind this adapter will reduce your hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50%. For example, the Draw-Tite # 24871 on your 2014 Chrysler 200 has a max tongue weight of 200lbs, but with the adapter you will have a max tongue weight of 100lbs. I have attached a demonstration video for this adapter.
