Gaining Ground Clearance With Two Motorcycle Carrier

Question:

I have an RV with a class IV hitch and bought a Versahaul double motorcycle carrier. Will have two dirt bikes on it weighing about 500lbs total. I would like to use your Patriot Hitches adjustable hitch receiver adapter to raise it about 6 inches. Its rated for 700lbs. Do you see any issues with this set up? Thank You

I have a single motorcycle carrier for my KX450. Between my bike and the carrier their dead weight is about 315lbs, but my tongue weight is more than that since the bike sits farther out from the hitch receiver. With bumps and hills on the road that tongue weight is constantly changing and with your double motorcycle carrier the tongue weight is going to be much more since it sits further out from the hitch.

That being said, the Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver # PH54FR is your only potential solution for ground clearance, I would not trust it to carry even my one bike. That's just me. It's going to add length to your accessory as well which will increase your tongue weight too. I would highly suggest not going with this set up as you could loose your bikes and carrier in the process.

You will be within your hitches capacity but you will be maxing out the adjustable hitch. Just be cautious when driving.
