How To Make More Clearance For Wide Handlebars On Platform Style Bike Racks
Question:
I have a question about platform bike racks. I was looking at the Yakima Y02443 for 2Trek Marlin 5s on a 2020 Highlander. The only thing is that my handlebar extends 15 and the video for the 2015 Highlander showed space for a 9 handlebar extension. Is there another rack that might fit the bike better? Also wanted to leave the possibility for a fat tire bike on the rack too and wanted the 2 receiver only because I thought it would have less sway.

Although the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443 is a good rack, I have one that's better for your situation. The Kuat NV is my favorite rack we sell by far. It comes in Matte Black # BA22B, Metallic Black # NV22B and Gunmetal Grey # NV22G. It has all the features that the HoldUp has but looks better and it has a Hi-Lo Adapter # HL20B that will solve your handlebar problem. Only the Nv 2.0 will leave the option for a fat tire bike using this adapter strap # APBK
If you really wanted to get the HoldUp, go for it! You could use the Hi-Lo Adapter with the HoldUp if you need the extra clearance. I would try to put your 2Trek Marlin 5s on the outer bike mount to prevent the handlebar from touching.
If you wanted to go all out with Yakima you can get the Yakima BackSwing # Y02483 which will also solve your handlebar issue no matter where you put it but it will gain the ability to swing away to completely open your rear hatch for riding prep. If you wanted to go the Kuat route, they make one as well # PVP20B.
