To add a 7-way connector to your 2020 Ford Explorer without the factory trailer connector you will first need to install a 4-way connector using the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118599 which will not require any splicing.

With a 4-way connector installed you can now install a 7-way connector using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7 which will plug into your new 4-way connector, and require only a few more connections. You will need to ground the white wire to the frame with a self tapping screw, run the black wire to the battery of your vehicle with the included 40-amp circuit breaker, and run the blue wire to where you will be mounting the trailer brake controller.

For a trailer brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 due to it being an extremely reliable trailer brake controller that has great features like and easy to read LCD screen, and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand.

Another option that will not require you to drill a hole in your dash to mount the trailer brake controller is installing the # ETBC7L and using the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 which mounts directly to the 7-way connector and can be removed and used on another vehicle if needed.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
