I would be happy to recommend a flat towing setup for your 2011 Chevrolet HHR.

Starting with the base plates I recommend the Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 3141-1 which is confirmed to fit your HHR and the removable arms will keep the front of your vehicle looking good when you are done flat towing.

For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 which is self aligning when hooking up to your tow vehicle, and is a high quality tow bar made out of powder coated steel and stainless steel arms for great corrosion resistance. You will want to use the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643 with this tow bar and base plate combination.

Moving on to wiring I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which will add a 6-way connector to the front of your vehicle and the included 7-way to 6-way cord will connect to the 7-way connector of your tow vehicle to power the lights. I really like the included diodes that protect your factory wiring from feedback and damage. You will also want the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass # RM76511 to prevent your battery from being drained when flat towed.

Lastly for a supplemental braking system I recommend the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR due to its easy install and since it gets completely removed when you are done flat towing meaning it can be used in multiple different vehicles if needed. You will also need the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332.

You will more than likely need a high-low adapter to level your tow bar to your tow vehicle, so I have included a link to a helpful article that will walk you through how to measure for the correct adapter, and a link to all of our high-low adapters for you to take a look at.

It is always a good idea to check the recreational towing section in the owner's manual for your vehicle for any special steps needed to make your vehicle ready to be flat towed, or any flat tow restrictions.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
