How To Install The Tekonsha Prodigy P-3 In Your 2001 Chevrolet Suburban
Question:
I am sorry to report to you but your harness connection between the vehicle and the P3 is not adaptable. With headlights or lights on it works with no lights on the vehicle it does not work it has to be rewired. So this item is not the correct item that you say it is.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P-3 # 90195 uses Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3025-P for your 2001 Chevrolet Suburban, as long as it has the factory tow package. Make sure this harness is attached to the junction box under the dash, specifically the connection that is second from the left on the top row. I have attached a photo to show this connection, along with a video.
If you do not have the tow package, then you would have needed 4 way kit # C59496 and universal 7 way kit such as # ETBC7. On the # ETBC7 kit, the blue wire would be ran to the brake controller's blue wire. The brake controller's black wire would connect to positive terminal on battery, the white wire would connect to negative terminal on battery, and the red wire would tap into the brake pedal wire that has power ONLY when the brakes are applied. I have attached a diagram for this wiring setup.
