Left Turn and Brake Lights Working on a Trailer Towed by a 2010 Chevy Aveo

Question:

Seperated wiring connector in 2010 Chevrolet Aveo. Plugged in T-Connector wiring kit # 56092. Hooked up trailer on ball and plugged in. Trailer has lights and right passenger side turn signal. No brake or left driver side turn signal. Verified wiring on trailer. Car shows no problem. Tried different places for ground, no difference. Any ideas? Ordered receiver and wiring from you.

The first thing you will need to do is disconnect the trailer and then use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed to test the 4-Way end on your harness. If all of the functions are working properly then that does indicate a problem on the trailer side. If the signals are not correct on the 4-Way, go ahead and test the wires that lead into the converter. If they are right going in but wrong coming out, then the converter is bad and needs to be replaced. If the signals are wrong going into the converter, then there is a wiring issue on the vehicle that needs to be addressed. I included a video link that will help explain the testing procedure.

If the vehicle side checks out, then the issue is going to be on the trailer. The first place to look is the connecter itself. Any dirt or corrosion built up on the connector can cause the problem you are having. The grounds are also likely culprits. If all the grounds are attached to clean bare metal surfaces, then it could be the material of the trailer itself.

If you have an aluminum trailer, tilt trailer or tongue then you would need to run jumper grounds from the lights to the main trailer connector ground.
