Weight Distribution Hitch For 5,600lb Camper With Tongue Weight Of 735lbs

Question:

Hello, I’m looking at a camper weighing 5,600lb with a hitch weight of 735lb dry. I assume the hitch weight loaded will always be north of 800lb? What hitch weight and distribution hitch should I be looking for? Tow vehicle is a Jeep Grand Cherokee tow rated for 6,400lb Additionally would there be any benefit to using the WD hitch while towing our boat? 4,000lb including trailer I assume hitch weight is minimal Thank you!

When towing a trailer that has a gross weight that is over 50 percent of the vehicle's gross weight, a weight distribution system is recommended.

In order to use one weight distribution hitch for both of your trailers (camper and boat), I would go with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA94-00-1033. This has a tongue weight range of 600-1,000lbs and max towing capacity of 10,000lbs, which makes it the perfect weight distribution system to handle both of your trailers.
This may be slightly over-rated for your boat trailer, but it will still be beneficial and will work well regardless.

You will also need a shank with this kit - Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Shank # FA92-02-4315.

A 2" receiver hitch that is compatible with a weight distribution hitch is required for this setup. If you do not already have one, then feel free to give us your year make and model and we can find one that will work.
