For a 2016 GMC Acadia that doesn't have the tow package, we do indeed offer an option that's pretty simple to install.
I'd recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller, part # C51180. The brake controller would use your smart phone as the user interface, meaning nothing would need to bolted under the dash in the truck cab.
To install the Echo, you'll need to install a functioning 7-way trailer wiring harness, part # 118271 which includes the fuses and relays necessary for activating the tow package wiring. The 7-way doesn't include the mounting bracket, part # PK12711U. If you used the Draw-Tite # 75528 hitch, the hitch includes a tab that the # PK12711U bracket would attach to.
I've linked to some videos, one showing how the 7-way harness is installed, one that shows how the Echo Wireless Brake Controller works, and a third which shows how the hitch is installed.
