Protecting RV Electronics With The Go Power Transfer Switch

Hello, I recently purchased a progresive dynamics 35 smp ac/dc panel with charge controller from here. After doing some research Im not sure if this transfer switch is needed to better protect what im installing. renogy 200watt solar, 2000w renogy inverter. 6 srm27 batteries and isolater from coach to rig batteries. Trying to sort this out, Thanks for any help

I can see why you would want to install the Go Power Automatic Transfer Switch # 34264403 as it would protect your system from power back feed, but the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center # PD4135K does come with some safety features to protect itself in some cases. For instance, If a battery is accidentally hooked up backwards, the converter will be protected. An easily accessible ATC type fuse will blow when a battery is connected in reverse. Replace with same type and rating.

This is a good safety feature to have, but there is still a possibility of back feeding. Although, the Transfer switch may not be necessary, It wouldn't be a bad idea to install it. That's my recommendation. I usually lean towards the "just in case" side when it comes to my electrical components in the RV/camper just because having an issue on the road is NOT fun.. In some cases it could ruin the trip and batteries are EXPENSIVE!! My suggestion is to protect them as much as you can as they power your life on the road.
