How Can I Convert my 4-way Flat Connector over to a 7-way Connector to Match my Trailer
Question:
Hello! I have a 1998 Toyota 4runner 4x4 with a standard 4 prong wiring light kit. I recently bought a 14 enclosed trailer single axle that has trailer brakes and the 6 prong circular adapter wiring adapter that allows for break control and lights all in one. Do you have any recommendations for wiring kits that can hook into my 4runner to allow me to tow, have trailer brake control and light hookup? Thanks for your time!

On your 1998 Toyota 4runner you can add the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 this gives you a working 7 way and 4 way plug. These are the two most common plugs around and are very likely to be on any other trailers you may encounter.
For that reason I also recommend switching your trailer over to a 7-way plug. This will mean most every vehicle will be able to haul it since they are the most common. If you were to leave it as a 6-way should you break down or have issues no one else could really safely haul it.
To do this add the 7-Way Connector part # A7WCB to your trailer and you will be up to snuff with the most commonly used plugs on the market.
I have included videos for you to check out on both items.
