Will Use of an Engine Performance Programmer or Monitor Void the Manufacturer Warranty

Question:

I just purchased a 2012 F250 6.7L. I would like to increase hp/torque but I absolutely do not want to run the risk of voiding my warranty. Will adding this unit, in any way at all, have the slightest possibility of voiding my warranty? Thank you.

Use of an engine performance tuner or monitor will NOT automatically void a vehicle manufacturer's warranty.

The Edge Insight CS2 Comprehensive Gauge Display, part # EP84030, actually is not itself an engine tuner, but instead is a comprehensive gauge device that displays up to 8 parameters for your engine, such as engine and transmission temperatures, speed, RPM, etc. It connects to the OBDII port on your vehicle and can be used in conjunction with an engine tuner. I have included a general product video and also one showing installation of the product in a 2006 F-250.

Consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle actually caused the problem in question. However, since it is very difficult for most people to fight a voided warranty, we recommend that you simply return your vehicle to its stock settings and disconnect and remove your tuner before you take your vehicle to a dealer for warranty work. Do note that in some circumstances on laet model vehicles your dealer may be able to detect prior use of a programmer even if it has been removed. One possible remedy is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to allow the computer to reset.

A good place to start your evaluation process is with the FAQ article on performance chips, which is included with this message.
