Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Blue Wire Showing Voltage Without Apply Brakes Or Manual Override
Question:
I have the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller on a 2007 GMC Sierra and it has always worked fine. Recently I noticed the brakes not working right. Decided to start at the controller and work back. With the controller connected properly, I read 11.5 volts on a multimeter at the blue wire coming out of the controller disconnected. This reading doesnt change when I hit the brakes or override. However, doing the same test with a test light, it wont light up unless I hit the brakes or override. It appears to be getting volts, but no amps? Is this normal? Reading the other QandAs it indicates, I shouldnt be seeing the volts until the breaks or override is hit? I get the same readings at the 7 way plug and at the wires going to the brakes.

It is definitely not normal to be seeing 11.5 volts from the back of your Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 when you are not applying the brakes.
There is either an internal short in the trailer brake controller, or a short in the wiring to the 7-way connector.
Since you mentioned already tested the blue wire in the back of the Voyager # 39510 and it showed 11.5 volts and you got the same 11.5 volts reading at the 7-way connector without applying the brakes or manual override it sounds like the controller needs to be replaced.
I highly recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 due to it's easy to read LCD screen and built in diagnostics that will tell you if any issues occur. The P3 # 90195 will use the same wiring connector as your Voyager # 39510 and only require you to remove your old bracket and install the one provided with the P3 # 90195 to complete the install.
I included a video of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 for you to take a look at.
