Where to Connect Ground Wire When Installing 7 Way Trailer Connector

Question:

So I have a stock 4 flat that came with the car but I want to put a 7 round adapter on it so when I plug it in to the 4 flat can I just ground the adapter straight to the hitch receiver of the car or does it have to be to the frame / subframe

When grounding a trailer plug you will want to ground the harness to the vehicle frame and not to the trailer hitch; when installing a ground wire you want to find a paint and debris free spot so as to provide the best conductivity, which the hitch does not provide.
