The anti-sway attachment # 852-3037-001 is a very important part of any hanging-style rack. Did you get your Thule Helium Aero 3 second-hand without the anti-sway attachments? The Thule Helium Aero 3 TH9043 was discontinued and replaced by the Thule Helium Pro 3 #TH9043PRO, but you can see in the attached picture how they all came with the anti-sway parts.

They are there to GREATLY reduce the sway of the bikes on the road and minimize the bike-to-bike contact. Without them, your recommended weight capacity will be lowered since the bikes have more room to move which results in more stress on your cradles and straps. You also risk damaging your bikes when they bounce off each other on the road. You can try to mimic the anti-sway functions of the attachment by using straps around your bikes and really cinching them in. However, since the anti-sway attachments are so affordable, I highly recommend getting three of them # 852-3037-001 for your bike rack. That's the option with the least hassle and the most peace of mind.
