Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up After Swapping from 6-Way to 7-Way

my horse trailer has a 6 way plug and i changed it to a 7 way and my trailer brakes lock down when i hook the truck to it

This is most likely due to fact that there's two generally accepted standards for 6-way wiring pin outs and the only difference is that the 12 volt accessory and brake output circuits are reversed. So what you need to do on the 7-way wiring is swap the pins in the 1:00 and 5:00 positions and the problem will go away.
