Parts Needed for 2016 VW Tiguan to Add Hayes Brake Controller
Question:
Hello, I al looking for a simple brake controller to tow an 1800 lb single axle travel trailer, I own a 2016 VW Tiguan without factory tow package but for which I have installed an eTrailer Class 3 2 inch hitch and electrical wiring harness with a flat blade 4-pin connector. The trailer rental company requires the vehicle must have a 7-pin connector at the vehicle side and a brake controller. I have looked through a number of your products. Please tell me is the HAYES ENGAGE #HA81760 controller is recommended. It is simple and has great reviews. If so, what harness do I need to connect the brake controller to the auto wiring and the existing eTrailer wiring harness? Thank you

Since you already have the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98906 and T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118675 for your 2016 VW Tiguan, the only other thing you will need to add a brake controller is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.
That will give you the wiring and 7-way you need to add the Hayes Engage Trailer Brake Controller # HA81760.
If you are just looking for a simple brake controller for occasional use, the Engage is a fine option for your Tiguan. To connect it you will just need the correct wiring harness, which is the Universal Wiring Adapter for Hayes Trailer Brake Controllers # HA81789-HBC.
