Recommended Roof Rack for 2017 Kia Sorento to Carry Yakima SkyRise HD Tent
Question:
I have a 2017 KIA Sorento SX with the factory roof rails. I am interested in the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars - 3 Person - 600 lbs - Tan and Red Item # Y07437 I want to find out what else I will need to work for this tent to work with this vehicle ex: cross bar options, anything else?. Basically, what do I need to make this model tent completely functional? Also, are there other brands that would work well also and what is needed with those. Thank you

The components needed to allow you to use a rooftop tent like the Yakima SkyRise HD # Y07437 would be the same no matter which manufacturer you chose, and it sounds like you've got flush mounted rails on your roof so you'll really just need the roof rack kit; a full roof rack kit would include the towers and crossbars. The Yakima SkyRise HD can be mounted to square, round, aero or elliptical shaped aftermarket crossbars from most manufacturers, so you really could use most any brand of crossbars as long as they were able to handle at least 165-lbs and are the correct shape; I do recommend confirming in your owner's manual that your roof has the same, or a higher capacity.
The roof rack system that I recommend is the Rhino Rack Roof Rack for 2017 Kia Sorento which uses parts # RRVA126B-2 (crossbars) and # RRRCL4 (towers) because it gives you a high quality and durable roof rack at a more economical price point than some of the bigger brands. The RCL towers come with locks included, so you'll be able to secure the rack to the flush mounted rails on your vehicle and the elliptical shaped crossbars will do a good job of helping reduce wind noise during travel.
You also may want to consider adding the Annex for 3 Person SkyRise Tent # Y07422, which will give you a 3 walled room under your tent that can be used to change, serve as shelter during storms, or basically whatever purpose you need it to serve. This is one of the more popular add-ons for these tents and is a great supplement to your tent setup.
I've linked some review videos of all of these parts for you to have a look at.
