Recommended Trailer Wiring and Brake Controller Not Controlled by Smart Phone for 2012 BMW X3

Question:

Need trailer wiring and brake controller for 2012 BMW X3 1. Before to ask any question I found the 119250KIT for my vehicle following the ion car in the website. 2. If I go with the ETBC7 is there any particular break controller you recommend is just a personal thing I am not a fan of apps for the car. Thank you!

The Tekonsha # 119250KIT is a confirmed fit for your 2012 BMW X3. This is a convenient wiring harness that has circuit protected converters to help prevent any back-feed or short on the trailer wiring from damaging the vehicle's internal electrical components. I recommend the ZCI # 119250KIT because you've got a BMW, which have notoriously finicky electrical systems (any German car, really). This harness will work well for you.

This is also the reason that we don't recommend using wired brake controllers in European vehicles without brake controller adapters, so the next best solution would be using the # ETBC7L with the Autowbrake # 3430001, which mounts on the trailer. The Autowbrake still provides responsive proportional braking and since it mounts on the trailer, it can be used with any tow vehicle that has a 7 way connector.

If you were dead set on using a brake controller mounted in the cab of the vehicle, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 would be my recommendation for a proportional controller. This will require hard-wiring into the vehicle and you would want to use the # ETBC7 instead of the # ETBC7L to install the 7 way connector on your BMW X3.

I've linked some review videos of these parts for you to have a look at.
