Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller Function and Brake Assembly
Question:
I have the Prodigy P2 brake controller installed on my 2004 Ford F250XLT pickup. When adjusting the controller while pulling my 2018 Starcraft Autumn Ridge with self adjusting brakes I cannot get the brakes to lock up. I can feel the brakes being applied and slowing down the vehicle. Do my trailer brakes need adjusted? The pads look good at 5mm thickness.

Expert Reply:
Trailer brakes should not lock up. They should engage and you should feel the brakes applied as you stated. If you need more power, you may need to increase the boost on your controller. It will not increase past the manual override ability. Your brake shoes as you stated are still in working condition.
You can double check your power at the brake assemblies using a multimeter like # PT89ZR which should show 12 volts when checked with the manual override fully engaged. If they don't then you have a wiring issue or connector issue.
