Pop and Lock Custom Tailgate Lock # PAL8200 Compatibility With My 1995 Ford F-150 Standard cab XL

Question:

I have a couple questions about the #PAL8200. First of all, does it actually fit my 1995 F-150? I have read other companys advertisements about their product that says it will fit. When I call them on the phone their techs say it does not fit. I realize that my truck is 25 years old and they only make aftermarket parts for models that are less than 10 to 15 years old most of the time. My second question is: I dont really want it to lock and unlock every time my door locks are actuated. Can I wire it with a switch on my dash? I would like it to get its power only when the ignition key turned is on. If so, do you have the proper switch for this type of application? Thank you for any information you could send my way.

According to our fit guide, yes the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock # PAL8200 will fit in your 1995 Ford F-150 tailgate. In regards to your second question, you could wire it up however you want. In my experience with these older vehicles, they are a bit easier to custom wire your components to do what you want without throwing odd engine codes. So yes, you can wire it up to get what you want, but there are many different ways of doing it. That will have to be something you will need to research and test to find the right wire that gives it power when you want it.

Also, wiring up a switch would work too. Again, however you would like to do it. If I were to give you one suggestion for wiring the latch up differently than how it's intended to be, I would splice into a wire on the body harness if at all possible. This way you're not messing with the engine harness which could potentially give your ECU some mixed signals. Find the wiring schematics for your truck and go from there!

I've included some videos that may help you figure out the direction you would like to go when wiring it up.
