Troubleshooting a Tekonsha Voyager Brake Activator for Power Always on the Brake Output Circuit

Question:

My Voyager has 12 volts showing constantly on the blue wire. It is on an 06 Silverado and I used a factory harness to connect to the vehicles control panel under the dash. I have replaced all the connections on the trailer brake wires and now the marker lights all go dim when I press on the brake pedal and I have no trailer brake lights when the lights are on and the turn signal lights are inop on the tow vehicle and the trailer when the lights are on and the marker lights flash dimly. Sounds like a ground problem but why the constant power at the blue wire ? Is the controller bad and needs to be replaced ?

You should not be seeing 12 volts constantly on the blue wire of the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510. When that happens it usually means that the brake output circuit and the 12 volt power source have shorted out to each other so that the 12-volt power is going on the brake output circuit. To rule this out cut the brake output wire near the brake controller with enough wire to reattach it and test to see if the problem persists. If not, then the problem lies between where the wire was cut and the 7-way of your truck. Most likely its corrosion in the connector.

For your 2006 Chevy Silverado you will want to make sure that you have the # 3015-P harness and not the # 3025-P. These two harnesses use the same style connectors but are wired differently. Check out the picture I attached to see how your connector should be wired.

If the wiring does check out, and all of the grounds seem good then it would seem that the controller is bad.

The lights that are dimming sounds like a ground issue on the trailer. I would check the grounds if you have not already and make sure they are attached to clean, metal surfaces.
