Should Towing Setup with Weight Distribution go to Weigh Station to Verify Setup
Question:
I recently bought a 2018 jayco jay flight slx 294qbs. Came with weight dist hitch. I properly setup this hitch per directions. Using 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 as tow vehicle. Went to cat scale and weighed trailer and tow vehicle. I had exactly the same amount of weight on steer axle and drive axle, trailer weight was identical to what the sticker says the trailer should weigh. Is the hitch setup right if both axels weigh the same and trailer weighs what it says it should? Or should there be more weight on the drive axle than the steer axle?

Expert Reply:
If the system is properly rated for the trailer and properly setup using the height differences of the fenders of the vehicle then I wouldn't put too much "weight" (pun intended) into what the scales show. We've asked our weight distribution manufacturers before how much weight should be offset using their systems and they say they can't really answer that as there's just too many variables.
Do you know which system you have specifically and what your loaded tongue weight is? Keep in mind the tongue weight also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
