Can Swagman XC Bike Rack be Used With Class I Hitch
Question:
I just installed a class 1 hitch on my car. For some reason the Swagman XC says its a class 2, though its not heavier than other racks and it also is compatible with a 1.25 inch receiver. The Malone Runway is similar in many ways, but its rated for a class 1 hitch. I dont understand what the difference is. And Id prefer the Swagman. thanks!

I know that there used to be an internal stopper on most Class I hitches which is why a lot of the bike rack manufacturers had those specific ratings on them, but there could still possibly be some differences. The best thing to do is stay within the limits of what the manufacturer has tested so between the Swagman XC # S64650 and the Malone Runway # MPG2149 I would go with the Malone since you have a Class I hitch.
If you really want to avoid using the Runway then I recommend checking out the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # C18085. It comes with bike and hitch locks, and it's compatible with a Class I hitch.
