Carbon Monoxide Alarm Replacement for RV

Question:

Hello, I have a COSTAR Carbon Monoxide Alarm Model 12RV-DB that requires replacement. I saw in previously answered questions I don’t necessarily have to replace this unit with a “RV” labeled alarm. If the case, 1 can I buy a “home” unit and properly remove the plug adapter from my old alarm and wire it to my new alarm so I can plug it back into the adapter in the RV? 2 If question 1 is a go, which colored wires on the adapter coincide with the the wires on the new alarm unit? Thank you.

I don't recommend converting a wired home alarm to an RV. The issue is home alarms typically use 120v where you will want the 12v alarm for your RV. I recommend using the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector - 12 Volt - White # AT36681. This allows you to have two power supply options one for backup power and a single ground. I've attached a photo to assist.

You can use a completely battery operated unit that would be used in a home in your RV, but rewiring a system can alter its effectiveness so that is not recommended. For just a carbon monoxide detector we have the 3 AA battery operated # AT32703.
